Chapter Eighty
Perhaps this is what it meant to rule? To be a Princess? Something which Maera was woefully unprepared for. Whilst her mother was the daughter of a Prince, Lady Gael was educated in the ways of a Lady of the Stormlands, prepared since youth to be able to fulfill her role in life, as a wife mother and Lady of a noble House. But Maera? Being a Princess was not on the cards for her.
Although being a member of House Targaryen certainly had its advantages, Maera could feel her personality and freedom being crushed underneath the burden of her responsibility and authority, meaning she could never be her true self. Duty called for her to put on the mask of whatever was necessary for her subjects, whether that be kindness, diplomacy or ruthlessness. It was incredibly exhausting.
That evening, Maera found herself back in her chambers at Harrenhal. The darkness outside was punctuated by the soft glow of candles lit throughout the room, casting flickering shadows on the stone walls. The warm, golden light created an intimate and soothing atmosphere, a stark contrast to the harsh events of the day.
Maera sat on her bed, now clad in a soft nightgown that felt cool against her skin. Her freshly washed and redressed wounds throbbed faintly, a constant reminder of her recent ordeal. Her dark brown and silver hair, previously pinned up, now flowed freely in tight curls, cascading over her shoulders and down her back, thanks to the maid who had attended to her.
Spread out on the bed around her were numerous pieces of parchment, bottles of ink, and letters. Maera had decided to use replying to correspondence as a distraction from the tumultuous thoughts that plagued her mind. The act of writing, of focusing on something tangible and methodical, provided a small respite from the emotional and physical pain.
The letters varied in importance and content, but most were regarding mild matters. Some were messages from allies, updates on the war, and requests for guidance. Others were personal letters, filled with words of concern and support from members of House Wylde. Each piece of correspondence demanded her attention and her response, giving her a sense of purpose and control.
Only a few were left unopened. One bore many foreign stamps and seals, which Maera recognized as Essosi, before eagerly opening it.
Little Sister
I hope this correspondence finds you well. I am writing to you with some news that may ease the Greens efforts at sea.
After much deliberation from the Magisters, they have agreed to send a fleet in support of freeing the Gullet so trade may continue with Kings Landing. Whilst I am sure this is just a bid to get money back into the Magisters pockets, it will still work out in your favour.
We await your command, Princess.
Yours Faithfully,
Dermot
Maera let out a breath she did not know she was holding, smiling gratefully at the news. The magisters of Essos had promised their ships, though likely to serve their own agenda, it was still a significant boon to the war effort. Maera put the letter aside, eager to inform the war council of this development.
Another letter was from little Princess Jaehaera, who had written about her younger brother Maelor’s mischievous antics. According to Jaehaera, Maelor had taken to pulling her hair when the nursery maids weren't looking, a fact that both annoyed and amused Maera.
Attached to the letter was a small painting of brion. The dragon, as depicted by Jaehaera, resembled a pig with rabbit ears and chicken wings, splatted with blue and black paint that had bled together in a whimsical, childlike manner. Despite the crude rendering, Maera giggled at the sight, her heart warmed by the thoughtfulness of her beloved niece. She quickly penned a reply, expressing her longing to be reunited with them soon.
The final letter in the pile lay there, almost forgotten in the shuffle. Its red wax seal bore the symbol of an archer, and Maera’s green eyes widened as recognition dawned. It was from House Tarly.
With a mixture of apprehension and urgency, Maera hastily opened the letter, bracing herself for threats or troubling news from the new Lord of Horn Hill. To her surprise, she found nothing of the sort.
The letter began without a formal greeting, no indication of who it was from. Yet, the distinctive loops on the L's and the emphatic crosses on the T's were unmistakable. Wynni.
How could you?
I am sold to a family like a brood mare to further our father’s influence across the Westeros, the only reason I am now convinced he had children.
I arrive in a land I am unfamiliar with, to live with people I do not know, and hastily married and bedded by a stranger. I am forbidden by my husband’s family from conversing with my siblings when House Tarly turn cloak, and left completely and utterly alone, abandoned, an orphan.
Then when I finally begin to find happiness with my husband, as we begin to form a bond, you take him away. And in doing so, I have lost his child in my womb.
They are to ship me back to Rain House as House Tarly feel I am responsible for your actions and will no doubt betray them. My marriage, my child, erased. I will never, ever, forgive you.
Maera began to shake, her breaths coming quickly in a panicked manner as she read the saddened and angered words of her sister. Relief washed over her knowing that Wynni was alive and well, after not having any contact with her in months. But the knowledge that Wynni was furious with her for murdering Lord Alan, and the pain of her sister’s miscarriage, filled Maera with dread.
Her hands trembled as she set the letter aside, her heart pounding in her chest. Maybe Wynni did not know about the attempt her husband had made on Maera’s life? Even so, sensing Wynni’s hurt and anger on the parchment cut Maera deeply. She took a few deep breaths, trying to calm the storm of emotions swirling within her.
With shaking hands, Maera began to clear away all the letters, quills, and ink from her bed. She carefully stacked the correspondence, placing them on a nearby table. She blew out the candles, plunging the room into darkness except for the faint moonlight seeping through the windows.
When Maera eventually lay her head on her pillow, tears began streaming down her face, silently sobbing as the weight of the day's emotions overwhelmed her. The child in her womb kicked violently, and though she stroked her stomach in an attempt to soothe the baby, it was not enough to distract her from her sorrow.
She wished so dearly to be back at Rain House with Sabine, Wynni, and their many other brothers and sisters. Maera longed to curl up beside Wynni in bed, as she had when they were children, when Wynni was scared of the dark. She wanted nothing more than to stroke her little sister’s hair, hold her tightly, and tell her everything would be alright. But it wouldn’t. They were now in the adult world, and the horrors they faced were so much worse than the dark.
Maera was unsure how much more of this she could take. The Dance of Dragons seemed to be not only tearing apart House Targaryen but also her own family. The strain, the betrayals, and the relentless conflict felt like an unbearable burden. Eventually, as exhaustion took over, Maera drifted into a fitful sleep, her tears still wet on her cheeks and her heart heavy with longing and despair.
Tumblr media
“Princess, should you not be abed?”
The next day, Maera limped into the council chambers on the arm of Lord Unwin Peake. Her injuries still caused her great pain, but she had found a new strength within herself and was determined to be present and more engaged during the meetings. The ache in her body was a reminder of her resolve. As she entered, the other council members rose from their chairs in respect, although some looked shocked to see her, as evident by Lord Vance’s questioning of her presence.
“I have been abed long enough, thank you Lord Vance,” she replied firmly as she shuffled carefully to her seat at the head of the table, focusing on each step to hide the winces of pain that threatened to show. She couldn't afford to appear weaker than she already felt.
Once she was seated comfortably, Lord Unwin made his way to his own seat. Maera glanced around the table at the council members as they took their seats. Maester Cain had a look of concern on his face at her attendance, clearly worried about her health. The elder Lord Vance looked annoyed, perhaps questioning the prudence of her presence. Lord Butterwell scratched at his beard curiously, awaiting the Princess to speak. Maera detested the looks from the men, feeling their judgment and doubt pressing upon her. She straightened in her chair, determination flaring in her eyes. It was time to prove herself.
“Before we begin, I must apologize sincerely to all of you,” she began with diplomacy, her hands resting calmly on the table. “My husband leaving caused me to disengage from the matters at hand.” A momentary look of sadness washed over her face at the thought of Aemond, but she quickly hid it from the council members, repressing the complicated feelings she had towards the Prince for the meantime. “But since the attempt on my life, rest assured I return with a steady head and I am focused on what is at stake.”
The men, apart from Lord Unwin, exchanged hesitant glances. Lord Butterwell cleared his throat, shifting uncomfortably in his seat. “Princess, myself and Lord Vance are unsure if your attendance isappropriate.” Maera clenched her jaw but attempted to remain composed as the Lord continued to speak. “While we value your presence in Harrenhall, you are with child and have suffered immensely. Is it wise to further burden yourself?”
Maera glanced around the room, gauging the reactions of the others. Of course the old fools did not want her there without her husband. She was a woman, and so obviously incapable of being with child and managing affairs with the castle walls, as well as making decisions about her own, and the Realm’s, future. At least that is probably what a lot of the noblemen thought.
Maera bit her lip to stifle a scoff at the Lord’s notion, thinking to herself that no wonder Rhaenyra was so eager to win the throne for herself, or else she would be cast aside to only focus on her family and her husband’s wellbeing, not having any say in government affairs. Despite everything that had transpired between the Blacks and the Greens, in that moment in the council room, Maera empathised with her half-sister in law.
Taking a steadying breath, she addressed Lord Butterwell’s concerns. “Do you recall the fate of Alys Rivers, my Lord?” she asked with a tilted head, a harsh tone to her voice.
The Lord gulped nervously, his eyes darting away from hers. “I do.”
Maera nodded, her gaze unwavering as a grin spread to her face. “Good, then we can all agree I am not some helpless maiden who needs protection from updates of battle and gore.”
Lord Vance huffed in frustration, his fingers drumming impatiently on the table. Maera pressed on, asserting herself. “My presence here, and that of my dragon’s, are what is holding this fortress. If you feel you can match Ēbrion’s power and defend Harrenhall from the Blacks and their own dragons, then please, feel free to speak it now.”
A tense silence filled the room as the men avoided her gaze, their unease palpable. Maera’s eyes flicked to each of them, her resolve unshaken. Lord Unwin watched her with a hint of admiration, his respect for her evident in his steady gaze. Yet this was not enough for the Princess to assert herself and allow the meeting to truly begin.
She sighed deeply, leaning back in her chair with frustration. If she was going to get these lords to work with her, she would have to try a different technique. Were she a Prince, a direct approach would be suffice, but as she was no man, it would not hold any weight; she needed to be more tactful.
“I will not sit here and insult you and claim I fully understand all matters at hand, because I do not,” Maera said, her voice steady and sincere. “You have a wealth of knowledge between you all, my Lords. And whilst I am aware that I am not my husband, I represent him and the crown whilst he is not here.”
By admitting her own shortcomings, as well as acknowledging the void Aemond’s absence had left, an absence that she could not fill, the Lords slowly appeared more receptive. Although she did not necessarily believe that a Princess’s role was separate from politics and battle plans, it had always been the way of things. Some even thought the order had been bestowed on humanity by the Gods, and to challenge that was seen as blasphemous.
As the Lords glanced at each other, Maera continued on. “I would be honoured if you would teach me, be patient with me, work with me, and as a united council, we can make decisions on behalf of the Realm.” Maera saw Lord Unwin nod approvingly in the corner of her eye. “That way, there will not be a disruption in proceedings whilst Aemond is away.”
Through giving the lords the illusion of power within the meeting, Maera ensured she held her own. She made them feel important and involved, fostering a sense of collaboration rather than confrontation.
“Can we come to an agreement, my Lords?”
Maester Cain's look of concern softened, and even the elder Lord Vance seemed to begrudgingly accept her presence. Lord Butterwell, still scratching at his beard, nodded thoughtfully at her words. The awkward tension began to dissipate, replaced by a more productive and cooperative atmosphere.
Maera knew that winning their trust wouldn't be easy, but this was a promising start. She was determined to navigate this delicate balance, using her newfound approach to strengthen her position and secure the support she needed.
When the meeting finally began, gradually, the lords began to engage more openly, offering their insights and suggestions whilst also considering Maera’s opinions and own knowledge. Minor matters were discussed, such as the delivery of wheat and barley to the fortress. The lords deliberated over safe routes for suppliers to take during the war, their combined experience ensuring that vital supplies would reach Harrenhall without unnecessary risk.
The Butterwell lord mentioned a shortage of blacksmiths in the area, which had led to fewer swords in the hands of their soldiers.Lord Unwin, ever resourceful, suggested procuring additional blacksmiths from King's Landing. The lords quickly agreed, and the matter was efficiently brought to a close.
As the lords continued to chat, Maera's attention drifted to the large map spread out across the table. Black and green figurines representing the warring factions dotted the map, and she couldn't help but smile at the memory of herself and Aemond knocking them off the table during their passionate encounter.
Sadness and frustration washed over her. She was furious with Aemond for his actions and decisions, yet she missed his presence deeply. This conflicted her, making her even angrier at herself. Balancing these emotions was a constant struggle, one that only added to the weight of her responsibilities.
As Maera studied the map intently, noticing how the green figurines seemed even sparser than before, a comment from Lord Vance caused her head to snap up.
“We have some troubling news to report upon the Westerlands border,” the older nobleman began, his tone grave. “Whilst attempting to get the Lannister army across the Red Fork, Lord Jason was killed.”
Maera sighed deeply, her shoulders slumping. It was another blow to the Green forces, and she could not help but feel guilty for not patrolling the borders the last few weeks, even though her condition prevented her from doing so.
“Ser Adrian took charge and managed to get the remaining host to Acorn Hall in order to regroup,” Lord Butterwell added, his expression serious. “Unfortunately, the rivermen met them again on the battlefield, and even though the Greens were victorious, Ser Adrian was slain.”
Maera was stunned, her eyes widening. Her mind raced with the implications, her thoughts immediately turning to her sister, Sabine. Ser Adrian had been kind, loyal, and a good husband. Thankfully, Maera’s sister had given birth to two sons and could regent for the eldest until he came of age, ensuring her safety. Maera dug her nails into her palm, feeling another flare of anger towards Aemond. Yet another of Alys's visions had proven wrong, adding fuel to her simmering rage.
“We must send our condolences to Lady Johanna and Lady Sabine for the loss of their Lord husbands.”
“Yes, Princess, but that is not the only matter at hand,” replied Lord Unwin, causing Maera’s frown to deepen as she shifted her gaze to him. He continued, “The Red Kraken has taken it upon himself to pillage and plunder the shores of the Westerlands.”
Maera’s expression hardened as she absorbed the news, her fingers tightening around the sleeve of her dress. The room fell into a tense silence, the weight of the situation pressing down on everyone present. She remembered Aemond's attempt to procure an alliance with Lord Dalton Greyjoy. The Ironborn Lord had stayed true to his word, adhering to tradition by reeving and raiding along the coast. It was a stark reminder of the unpredictable and brutal nature of war.
“Lady Johanna has written to her good brother to plead for aid, and the Master of Ships has granted it,” revealed Maester Cain.
“Leaving us with less ships along the Gullet,” added Lord Vance.
Maera looked at the map, glancing at Essos and the Straits. The news from her brother, Dermot, had come at the right time, and Maera was thankful she could present a solution to the council. Staring at the map, she saw a small box of green figurines beside it. Confidently, she picked up some extra figurines and dotted them on the coast of Essos and some near the Straits of Tarth. This piqued the council's interest, some lords leaning forward and awaiting Maera to reveal her plan.
“My brother has written to me that the Magisters will send a fleet to our cause. This should bolster the numbers around the gullet and leave us less vulnerable,” the Princess declared, moving the figurines she had placed to the Gullet of the Crownlands. “I can request more ships be sent to from Morne to compensate for the Lannister fleets’s absence. Are in agreement?”
The council listened attentively, nodding in agreement as Maera spoke. Her proposal was sound, a well-thought-out strategy to mitigate the threat of the Velaryons. As she placed the figurines on the map, representing the deployment of forces, the council members began to discuss the specifics, their initial hesitation easing into cooperation.
Lord Unwin agreed to correspond with the Master of Ships, Ser Tyland, to make him aware of the strategy and gain his consent for the arrangements to be made. Despite the weight of her grief and anger, Maera found solace in the fact that she could still lead and protect her people. Her resolve was unwavering, and with each passing moment, she felt more determined to see her plans through and ensure the safety and strength of her House.
Tumblr media
The flames in the hearth of Maera's room flickered and danced, casting a warm, golden glow throughout the chamber. Shadows played across the walls, their movements mirroring the crackling fire. The heat radiated outward, creating a cozy, intimate atmosphere that contrasted sharply with the cold stone walls of Harrenhal.
As Maera sat in her chair, she felt a sense of accomplishment. The contributions she had made at the war council meeting filled her with a renewed confidence. She realized that she could indeed handle these responsibilities on her own. Her strategic mind, combined with the power she wielded—a dragon, a fleet by inheritance, and the diplomatic nature of a politician-made her a force to be reckoned with.
However, Maera wished to put all that aside for a moment. She wanted to spend quality time with the child in her womb. She felt a strong kick beneath her black and golden loosely fitted robes, a reminder of the life growing inside her. Gently, she stroked her swollen belly, a tender smile spreading across her face. The worries and burdens of leadership momentarily faded away as she focused on the small, yet powerful movements of her unborn child.
In this quiet, serene moment, Maera found peace. The future remained uncertain, filled with challenges and conflicts, but here and now, she was content. The firelight continued to bathe her in warmth, its soft glow reflecting in her eyes as she connected with the tiny life within her, drawing strength and comfort from their shared bond.
Maera’s previous bedridden recovery had only brought her closer to the child growing inside her. During those long, lonely days confined to her chambers, she often talked or sang to the babe as it rhythmically kicked against her hand. Isolated for most of the time, the babe had become her constant companion, a source of comfort and connection.
She conversed with her bump in both the common tongue and High Valyrian. Although there was no evidence in medical texts that a child could hear voices from outside the womb, Maera liked to think it could. Every time she spoke or sang, the child would respond with a punch or kick, as if acknowledging her presence and love.
The Princess couldn’t believe how quickly the pregnancy had progressed. Less than two moons remained until the child’s arrival. Despite all the changes she had already undergone, she marveled at how much she had grown to love this unborn life with a fierceness and intensity she had never experienced before. The anticipation of meeting her child filled her with a mix of excitement and trepidation, yet her love remained unwavering, a bright beacon amidst the turbulent seas of her life.
The large black and green dragon egg remained in its iron pot for most of the day near the hearth, nestled above piping hot coals that blazed fiercely, incubating the beast within. The intense heat radiated from the coals, enveloping the pot and creating an almost unbearable aura of scorching warmth. Servants of the castle dared not venture too close. The searing heat from the pot was overwhelming, making it impossible for them to lift it, let alone touch the egg itself.
However, Maera was unfazed . The blood of the dragon ran hot in her veins, rendering her unaffected by the scathing heat. She approached the pot with a calm determination, her hands immune to the burning touch as she lifted the egg. Cradling it gently against her round stomach, Maera felt no stings or burns.
As she held the egg, the child within her seemed to sense its presence. A series of wild kicks thudded against her belly, striking the shell of the egg. The sensation made Maera giggle, a joyful sound that resonated in the warmth of the hearth. The connection between her, the unborn dragon, and the child she carried was palpable, a harmony of life thriving in the heat.
“This egg could hatch and you could have a dragon of your very own. You will be so lucky to have one born to you, ” Maera whispered, gazing down at her bump as the child kicked against her hand. “My grandfather, your great-grandfather, Vaegon, was nicknamed ‘The dragonless’ as he did not claim one. He is now a Maester somewhere in the Citadel I think. No longer a Targaryen by name.”
As Maera spoke softly to her bump, she could hear the low calls and growls of her dragon, Ēbrion, drifting through her window. The great blue and black beast was still holding vigil in the burnt lavender field, remaining close to his rider. His massive form cast a shadow over the charred landscape, his eyes ever watchful and protective.
The Princess chuckled at the welcome noise. “I had to claim my dragon. Never in my life did I think I would ever be a dragon rider, that I would be just like my grandfather. And yet now, I feel I was born to be. That it is within my blood.”
Maera longed to ride Ēbrion again. She missed the sensation of the wind running rapidly through her hair, the invigorating scent of fresh air, and the exhilaration of soaring high above the ground. The freedom of the skies called to her, a siren’s song of liberation and joy.
She hoped fervently that Maester Cain would soon deem her injuries healed enough for her to take flight once more. The stab wounds to her thigh and arm were improving each day, but even the simplest tasks such as walking and dressing remained challenging. Each movement was a reminder of her ordeal, yet her spirit remained undaunted, driven by the desire to reunite with Ēbrion in the skies.
“I am still new to riding a dragon, but I am getting better everyday. It just takes some practice.”
In that moment, a wave of sadness washed over her as she pictured the one-eyed Prince. He had been her mentor in the art of dragon riding, teaching her everything she needed to know. He had shown her the different types of saddles, how to read a dragon's body language, the significance of the bond between rider and beast, and the precise techniques for steering the reins. Each lesson had been a shared moment of connection and trust.
Maera missed those times, times when her heart was lighter and less burdened by the troubles that now plagued her. Aemond had his faults, certainly, but she had trusted him then. He was her guide and partner, the one who helped her navigate not only life with a dragon, but the complexities of the royal court since her status had changed. But now? After everything that had transpired with Alys, Maera could not see a clear path forward. Betrayal and doubt clouded her thoughts, making it difficult to reconcile the man she had loved with the one who had caused her so much pain.
She was bound to Aemond, not through some fantastical prophecy or a greater calling from the Gods, as the dead witch had once suggested. No, their bond was forged through marriage and solidified by the child growing within her belly. This connection, both legal and familial, tied her to him in ways that were both inescapable and deeply complex.
“You have the dragons blood within you too,” the Princess assured the babe. “And it is not just my guidance you will have. The other person to teach you…will be your father.”
Familiar footsteps echoed just outside Maera’s door. She did not flinch or outwardly react, maintaining her calm focus on the babe and the dragon egg she cradled. The room was filled with a warm, serene ambiance as she whispered softly, undisturbed by the approaching presence.
The door to her chambers creaked open slowly, allowing a cool draft to sweep into the room. Maera turned her head to look at the figure standing in the doorway. Her heart sank and pounded loudly all at once as she instantly recognized the shadowy figure.
“Issa daria?” My Queen?

moodboard for a mage of blood in a vacillating (red/pale/black) relationship with a maid of life with themes of tcgs, rot, and insects?
Done and done. This is one of my first moodboards, so I hope it's alright. I assume TCGs are trading card games, so I got some M:tG cards, and there's an insect background to the whole thing. I was going for a red, green and white color palette, so I'm hoping that hit how I wanted to.
Hope you enjoy and please don't hesitate to ask if you want anything changed!

tonight i am thinking about the genshin men popping accidental boners over chubby reader. a cute new maid at the dawn winery whose uniform hasn’t been made yet, so the hand-me-down you’re wearing doesn’t quite fit properly. you knock on diluc’s office and bashfully tell him you’re there to do some cleaning (that’s master diluc! he’s so important, so handsome, so powerful) but your dress is low-cut in the front and too short in the skirt and when you lean forward to dust he sees the push of your chest and knows a lot of your soft thigh is on display and his throat goes dry as he imagines bending you over his desk and his cock throbs for attention in his trousers.
or! playing a trading card game with itto, working as a team against two other players - he makes an advantageous move that wins you the game, and you cheer and whoop and envelope the bigger oni in a hug, your soft body pressing against his harder one - the scent of your hair and your bathing products floating up to him, your chest squeezed against his muscle, as he suddenly realises just how he towers over you and how nice it would be to have your hips squeezed in his hands.
or! you are a server at a new restaurant in liyue harbor that zhongli has somehow wangled an invitation to (perhaps he was invited by childe - yes, let’s say he was) with the understanding that the harbinger will be paying. it’s been busy today! you’re rushed off your feet, and someone’s cat is winding around your ankles somehow as you rush to take these two men’s order - and you end up sprawled over zhongli’s lap, breathless and embarrassed and ruffled. you’re soft. your uniform hugs you in all the right places, and you’re in exactly the position that zhongli would have manipulated you into if he wanted to, say, spank you for not looking where you’re going - he hopes you don’t feel the hardness digging into your stomach. or perhaps he hopes you do.
(for childe, the sight of you does indeed make heat stir in his stomach, but more fascinating is the look zhongli gives you that suggests that he’d like to know you better. how exhilarating would it be to snatch you from the claws of the former geo archon himself; what a victory it would be to mark you with his teeth and show how he has conquered another worthy adversary . . . and of course, you’re so pretty he’d surely enjoy every moment of the process. he’s hard imagining you pinned beneath him and wriggling breathlessly as you try and get the upper hand).

I crave some brotherly shenanigans, so have some Diluc and Kaeya headcanons.
Tumblr media
We all know how much Kaeya loves summer. Soaking up the sun, sandcastles, swimming and all that fun stuff. In contrast, Diluc loves winter. As a kid he loved snowmen, curling up with books in a pillowfort in front of the fireplace, drinking hot coco. Crepus would take the boys ice skating every year.
They were both a nightmare to deal with on road trips, especially when they were very little. Despite Crepus best attempts to pack up all sorts of toys and activities to do, even the most well behaved siblings can only sit in a carriage for so long before boredom takes hold. Kaeya would always go, "I'm not touching you" "yes you are!" Or Diluc would start throwing toys to make some terrible game of catch. They had to make a lot of stops for them to get that energy out.
Despite how rich they were, Crepus wanted them to have good work ethic, so he had weekly chores for them to do. Mostly things like keeping their rooms tidy so the maids have less to do when they deep clean. Help count the wine stock. Go to springvale to pick up meat for dinner. Sweeping the stairs. Etc. Kaeya preferred doing the ones where was with people more. Like going to shops or helping the maids, mostly because he always overheard the juicy stories. Meanwhile Diluc liked the more outdoorsy chores, like picking grapes and fixing stuff. He was a very hands on kid.
Kaeya is the younger of the two, but he hit that growth spurt first when they were around 12/13. And loved to tease Diluc about how he's the big brother now.
They would sneak down to the kitchen at night for snacks all the time.
Diluc was still pretty young when he got his vision. Of course the first thing they did was see what they could set on fire. Kaeya suggested trying to defeat the cryo slimes that were always down by the river. That didn't work. They were chased all the way into the mansion with singed grass in their wake.
Kaeya has always been the more fashionable of the two. In their teens, Diluc asked Kaeya to help him figure out what looked good on him.
Plenty of staff members had children of their own, some even lived on the winery grounds in the staff lodgings. The brothers were friends with all the kids around their age and every other week was some sort of slumber party.
Diluc was excited to have another kid in the house with him when Crepus first took Kaeya in. He did his best to make the boy feel welcome, from sharing all this toys and reading his books with him. Even introducing him to all the other kids.
They started sword fighting lessons as kids. Crepus hired the best instructor available in Mondstadt for his boys. And what do these two do on the first day with the wooden practice swords? Beat the shit out of each other. The instructor had their work cut out for them.
Even in adulthood with their strained relationship, they never actually try to cut contact with each other. Neither one of them is ready for that. After all, they are each others only family left.
They still gift each other on their birthdays. Diluc usually let's Kaeya drink for free, or gets him something practical. Kaeya will get Diluc something like an accessory he knows Diluc would like but likely wouldn't buy for himself.
Kaeya likes to mess with Diluc by telling Donna when he's working the bar, with a subtle hint of what color and fragrance he likes. Then laughs from the sidelines as he watches Diluc try to politely avoid her.
Despite all of their fighting, if there is a common goal or enemy, watch out. If you have ever seen Lucifer, the scene where "I know who did this." "I'll drive." That vibe.
All their old toys and games are still in the winery packed away. It is a common thing to argue about. "Diluc I want my trading cards back." "First of all, they are our cards, second if you want them so bad come get them." "Excuse you, who put in the work to collect them?" "Not you, that's for sure." They can go on for hours on that alone.

really? this vyn, the one i’ve been playing old maid with for a year, the one who we famously met making a house of cards, doesn’t know what card games are??
under the cut, some criticism on the translation for Vyn’s Endless Whispers SR:
Lost In Translation: Vyn’s Endless Whispers SR
[EDIT 9/10/2022: Mihoyo has fixed the translation for the two main issues that I mention (”card games” and “self-reflect”). Some details about that here. I’ll leave the post up as it was when the card was first released, though.]
I think the translation choices made in part three of the story (and to a much lesser extent, part six) create a completely illogical scenario when you think about Vyn’s character. My main issue is the scene where the illustration appears, and Vyn is completely perplexed by something that MC brings up in her continuation of the story.
The original word in Chinese was 游戏卡. This could be literally translated as “game card”, since it is made up of the words for “game” and “card”. And indeed, the initial times the phrase appears, its translation is “game card”.
Tumblr media
However, for me, the phrase “game card” doesn’t conjure up an immediate, specific idea. If the phrase were said to me without context, I would probably think of one of those chips that you insert into a game console that has the game data and allows you to play it. Maybe it could also be a vague way to refer to any kind of card used in a game. It certainly didn’t convey the idea of something immediately recognizable as a schoolyard pastime.
There’s another translation option for the phrase: “trading card”. If you do an image search for 游戏卡, you’ll see many things that could be described as trading card games (although the results are pretty skewed since the name for Yugioh is so similar to the phrase). Still, it perfectly fits the context as something that might be found at school, was collect and used for battling games, and was a popular pastime children could bond over. It’s the translation I used when translation this SR, and it was also used in the official Twitter post of this illustration.
Tumblr media
But. Unfortunately. There is. A third option. That appears when you swap the order of the words in the literal translation. You can see in the previous dialogue screenshot that the phrase quickly becomes “card games”, which continues to be used in the scene. (In Chinese, the original word游戏卡was used for the entire exchange.) The phrase “card games” conjures up the idea of games played using the 52-card deck (plus two jokers) with four suits, cards numbered from 2 to ace, etc. So now we have an absurd scenario where MC is trying to figure out how to explain card games to Vyn, who supposedly has no idea what they are. Vyn, who we met across a house of cards, whose highest upgrade materials include gilded poker cards that we SAW him use in chapter 2, who we’ve been playing card mini-games with for a year.
Tumblr media
And despite the illustration on Twitter using the “trading card” translation, the in-game description for the illustration uses “card game”. I don’t know why there’s an inconsistency, but it’s just extra frustrating to me that the better translation is right there and they didn’t use it.
Tumblr media
I also felt that Vyn was done a slight disservice by the translation in the following exchange later in the scene:
Tumblr media
You can see the Vyn’s original line here, with my translation below (I added the emphasis):
Tumblr media
Vyn: The child found a valuable trading card. And then? Would he collect it?  (孩子找到了珍贵的游戏卡。然后呢?他会收藏起来吗?)
MC: Yeah… Actually, trading cards are a kind of tool, a lot of kids used to use them to battle each other…
Originally, Vyn is able to infer from context clues a reasonable usage for the cards. It adds to his characterization as adaptable and quick-thinking. This part is omitted in the English translation, since MC simply explains how they’re used.
--
And finally, I mentioned a more minor grievance in part six.
In my translation of the card, I decided to localize “self-reflection” as “detention”, since I think it conveyed the idea of the scene better (trying to avoid an extremely common school punishment). I explained a bit more in the translation note:
*I used “detention” here since it’s a more familiar to the English-speaking world. I felt like directly translating the original word would need an explanation, which would break the flow. It was originally 写检讨, which is when a teacher makes you write a “self-criticism” where you write what you were doing, why you were doing it, that you won’t do it again, etc.
I still hold that opinion. In addition, I feel like it’s bizarre to be told that Vyn, a psychiatrist, may not have heard of the word “self-reflect” before. It’s also a word that doesn’t have as much of a direct connection to being a school punishment.
The translation team has changed references for localization before, such as in Luke’s Qixi phone call where he references the story of Sleeping Beauty instead of the original story of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl. I think this is another instance where they should have made the decision to change it.
Honestly, Vyn being completely clueless about both of these commonplace things was already a bit too farfetched for me, but I think the translation choices exacerbated that.

Kisses Like Wine 6
Summary:  The Thief gets into trouble, the reader makes a plan.
Warnings:  A little violence, some introspection.
We are drawing close to the end. :D
I’m tired of you.  You’re no better than my family.
He used the USB stick with its code to get into the vault.  Liberated the stone.  Got out of there.  If he was not, indeed, the world’s greatest thief, he would have failed utterly, because his focus was destroyed.
Your words kept echoing in his ears.  He’d had a lot of terrible things happen to him.  He’d been poisoned once and laid at death’s door for three days, just on the edge of death, the pain like the unrelenting fires of hell but he couldn’t let himself fall into a coma.
It didn’t hurt nearly as bad as what you said.  She’s just frustrated, he soothed himself.  It was a very frustrating night and you were not at your best.
He wanted to do something.  He imagined doing something.  Scenario after scenario, and they all ended the same, you saying that you understood what he’d been trying to do.  That you forgave him.
Maybe.  Maybe.  That you loved him.
That thought set him back.  Love was never part of the plan.  His plan was to show you a way out of your cage, but not replace it with another one.  You had to take your freedom, you had to build your own life.
He kept telling himself that he never wanted that life to be with him.
You were right.  He was a liar.  Something had changed.  Maybe it changed the night of the ball.
All this made him careless.  For the first time in his life, the first time in his long and very successful career…he was being tracked.
He got on a plane, headed to the final diamond, a five star hotel overlooking the Rhine.  Half hoping you would be there, doubting you would be.
He never made it out of the airport.
***
The last thing I was interested in was the Heart of the Rhine.  But here I was, working as a maid, looking for a way in.
Unlike the Compass, The Heart was usually in a vault, hidden behind a wine cellar.
“Are you any closer to getting the Star?”  My brother asked me when he called to check in.
“Do you know the Heart of the Rhine is worth twice what the Star is?  Twice.”
Silence.  Then, “Really?”
“And it is incredibly lovely.  I figure…get the Heart, then I can either just bring it home for the family, or trade it for the Star.  Get papa to let you know his preference, will you?”
“We’ve spent so much money getting you this far, we probably should go for the better stone…recoup our losses.”  He *almost* jokes.
“Did you email me what you found out?”
“Yep.  And overnighting your shopping list.  This is…this is it, right?  You’ll be done after this?”
“Miss me?”
Another silence.  “It’s not the same around here, no.  But…I don’t know how much more dad will let you do.”
“I know I’m not his only plan.”
“No.  The other plan is not…I’d avoid our boy, if I were you.”
I felt chills…What are they going to do?”
He hung up.
I stared at the phone, cursed, then slipped it back in my apron.  The day before I thought I’d seen Lars, a huge piece of work that our head of security sometimes brought in.  I new he was on retainer, and usually worked for us a few times a year.
I changed, took off my wig, and went looking for him, scratching my scalp.
He was not hard to find.  I had to troll him in a bit, walking all over the place, but I knew once he got sight of me, he’d zero in.
“Hey, Lars!”  I handed him one of two cups of coffee I’d gotten.
He nodded at me.
“So, any luck finding the Thief?  Dad told me to connect up with you, compare notes.”
“I’m done with that…someone else has him, and by the time they’re done, there won’t be anything left to bother with.”
I tried to make the spike of panicked fear I felt act like rage.  “Are you fucking kidding me?  They kill him, and we won’t get our property back!”
He shrugged.  “Your father’s not that worried.  He must think you’ve already got it in the bag.”  He took a sip of his coffee.  I wish I’d poisoned it.  “ But, you should know that.”
I channeled every privileged woman I’d ever met, straightened my spline, looked down at him, and said, “Do you like working for my family.”
He started to look uncomfortable.  “Yeah.  But that’s your father’s call.”
“True.  And I think his call will be a definite no when I show him the pictures I took of you screwing my sister on his desk.  You should work for the porn industry…”
“You’re bluffing.”  He growled.
“Am I?”  I took a step towards him, as if I wasn’t scared.  “You will take me to where they are keeping him.  If you have people you can hire to get here fast, do it.  We will go in and retrieve the thief and you…you get to keep your job.”
“He’ll fire me if I get you killed.”
I stepped back, sighed.  “Lars.  Do you really think he’ll care?  He just wants the diamond.  In a year, maybe two, our head of security will retire.  Don’t you want a nice, cozy position that pays well and has lots of benefits?”
He licked his lip.  “I might be able to get a guy.  Maybe two.”
**
The Thief was cursing himself.  He started with French, then in celebration of where he was imprisoned, German.  Spanish, his mother tongue.  Arabic was next, and maybe, after that, Russian…
All the while, he was thinking.  He didn’t have long…the taste of blood in his mouth and the pain in his ribs told him they’d roughed him up while he was out, but not much.  He was duct taped, but they had not searched his person, so did not know about the very sharp blade he kept in his shirt cuff, and he was working, working.
Whatever drug they’d used (Was this karma?) had faded, leaving him clear minded.
Were you safe?  You had to be safe.  Please God, keep you safe.
Maybe this was you.  Maybe the torture had not begun in earnest because they were waiting for you.  And you wouldn’t really hurt him.  No matter how much he deserved it.  He’d beg for your forgiveness then say, punish me, punish me so you know I am telling the truth, not lying to avoid the pain.
He heard voices.  They were speaking Gaelic of all things.  Had he’d displeased anyone from that part of the world?  He didn’t think so, but anything was possible.
He heard someone at the door, so he held his hands together carefully (he was almost free) and let his head hang down.
Someone came close, smacked him gently.  “You must be awake by now…open your eyes.  It’s time to talk…”
He raised his head.  “And what would you like to say?  What’s the weather like outside…it was supposed to be nice, but with a bit of a chill.”
“You have amassed a rather…stunning collection of wealth.  The gentleman I work for thinks it is time you share.  So, you tell us where you keep your valuables, and perhaps we will let you live.”
Their eyes met, and the Thief said, “A wise man would not let me live…”
They could both hear gun shots, on the other side of the door.  “Hold that’s thought,” he said almost amiably as he went outside.
The Thief got up, threw the duct tape on the chair, and caught the door before it could close.  At the doorway, he could swear he heard you yell out to someone…not angry, mad.  In charge.  He smiled and drew his pack of cards out, selected one and threw it on the chair.
He slipped out.  The place was a large warehouse…a good place to take someone, you could do what you wanted and no one would hear, throw the body in a box and ship it.  He was tempted, to go and find you, but…the card would be enough.  The game was afoot.
Thank you to you lovely people for being on my tag list, if you want added or dropped just let me know.  <3

DANGANRONPA RANDOM WHEEL! SECRET SANTA! (V3 Version!)
Korekiyo: Kiyo’s secret Santa was Kirumi. I feel like Kirumi would try to make him something. Either that or buy him a beautiful ceramic mask. I feel like Korekiyo would like those.
Miu: Miu’s secret Santa was Kiyo. Kiyo probably would try to trade with someone else, but end up just buying Miu an appliance for her to take apart. She’d be confused about it at first, but I think she’d like it.
K1-B0: Keebo’s secret Santa was Miu. Of course. She would upgrade him to have a sweet singing voice using her skills, but she’d also make him an internal hard drive with all of the popular songs that he can listen to.
Himiko: Himiko’s secret Santa was Keebo. I feel like Keebo would try and make Himiko a rocket powered broom for her to fly around on, and some glitter that she can use in her magic shows to give things a more mystical feel. Miu would definitely help him a bit.
Angie: Angie’s secret Santa was Himiko. Himiko would try and make something homemade for Angie. It would be subpar at best, because art isn’t Himiko’s thing, but I think Angie is the kind of person who would really appreciate her effort and intentions.
Kokichi: Kokichi’s secret Santa was Angie. She straight-up bought Kokichi a muzzle. And then Miu stole it. So she ended up just giving him a carving of Atua and a half-hearted blessing? from Atua. Kokichi would still enjoy it.
Kaito: Kaito’s secret Santa was Kokichi. Kokichi would pretend to not participate in the game especially after the gift Angie got him, but he’d actually put effort and time into Kaito’s. He’d attempt to make him cookies or something, and then leave them in Kaito’s room. He’d deny any involvement just to watch Kaito eat them and freak out from not knowing who his secret Santa was.
Tenko: Tenko’s secret Santa is Kaito. No joke here, Kaito would literally not know what to buy Tenko. So he’d just buy her a blue shirt that says “Kill All Men.” She’d like it a bit, but be a bit indifferent about it.
Maki: Maki’s secret Santa is Tenko. Tenko would go all out to make Maki’s present the best! Her present would initially be teaching her Aikido. But thinking about Maki, she probably already knows Aikido. She won’t say anything though. Tenko would also lock Kokichi and Kaito in a closet so she (Maki.) could have a degenerate male free day.
Shuichi: Shuichi’s secret Santa is Maki. She’d only participate because it’s Shuichi and not one of the others. I feel like she’s the type of person to get someone else a gift card so they don’t have to participate more than they need to. So she just gave him her monocoins and a letter that says “Here.”
Tsumugi: Tsumugi’s secret Santa is Shuichi. Shuichi’s present was finally cosplaying with her and letting her turn him into a catboy maid. This present turns out to be fun for Kokichi.
Ryoma: Ryoma’s secret Santa is Tsumugi. In a not canon (for her character) twist, Tsumugi is actually nice to Ryoma and gets him a PS4. Yes. A PS4. The man likes video games.
Kaede: Kaede’s secret Santa is Ryoma. Ryoma isn’t sure what to get Kaede, and he doesn’t want to be basic and get her something piano related... but he found this really soft piano scarf... She loved it of course, and because he felt awkward he also bought a box of tea. Gingerbread tea.
Kirumi: Kirumi’s secret Santa is Kaede. She gives Kirumi the day off and decides to let The Ultimate Maid take a self-care day. She cooks for Kirumi, plays the piano for Kirumi, and does everything Kirumi would do to make sure she is comfortable. Kirumi greatly appreciates the effort Kaede puts in.
Rantaro: Rantaro’s secret Santa is Gonta. Gonta doesn’t really understand the whole premise of the game, so he gets Rantaro a butterfly pillow and matching bed covers. Rantaro loves them.
Gonta: This leaves Rantaro as Gonta’s secret Santa. And surprise surprise, Rantaro got the same exact thing for Gonta. Except the one he’s giving Gonta has honeybees on it.
This took... WAY TOO LONG. But I’d do it again! :D

Maids to Wives
An Outlander AU based loosely on the TV Show and real life in the historic Jamestown
In 1619, one hundred and forty-four English women from good families crossed the Atlantic in response to the Virginia Company of London’s call for maids “young and corrupt” to make wives for the planters of it’s new colony in Virginia. One in six of the maids could even claim gentry status. Although promised a free choice of husband, they were in effect being traded into marriage for a bride price of 150 pounds of best leaf tobacco, the profits to flow to individual investors
In 1619, Claire Elizabeth Beauchamp made the voyage to do one thing: marry a man she's never met. But when she arrives, she comes to the startling realization that her heart belongs to someone else, a certain James Alexander Malcolm Mackenzie Fraser.
Chapter 1/? : Aboard The Ship
April 17th, 1619, Claire’s POV
“I feel like my innards are swasheling ‘bout” Geillis hacked out her dinner for the 4th time this week. I tried my best to soothe her, rubbing her shoulders lightly, but the smell of old fish and stomach acid from the other’s puking made it hard to keep anything down. Most of us hadn't been on a boat before, let alone in the middle of the ocean where the monstrous waves led to monstrous waves of sea sickness. It took all my strength not to succumb to the churn in my own stomach. Poor Geillis didn't have the same strength as I.
Geillis was one of the first women I met on this voyage. Me and her bonded over our love of herbs and our older age. She has become one of my closest friends on this trek to find my future husband.
My Husband. The word had only rolled off my tongue a few times in my life, but suddenly it was my entire world. It was all the ladies talked about, all they thought of,  all they could remember dreaming about. But, the rest of the women on the ship were different from me, and from Geillis too: they were young, and they were trained. Geillis and I were the eldest of all the brides -she being 31 and I being 27- and didn’t receive the same education as the rest of the girls. I myself spent my childhood traveling Europe with my Uncle Lamb, not learning how to be a good wife that could keep house. Perhaps if my parents hadn’t died when I was so young they could have instilled the passion for housekeeping in me, but a childhood under my Uncle’s influence assuredly led to the demise of any interest in such things. He even tried to enroll me in a dame school, but I refused. Can you imagine? Years of learning how to sew and knit and cook. I couldn’t think of a more revolting thing. I had longed to continue to travel with Uncle Lamb, as his career as an antiquarian required him to do, and so he had no choice but to keep me by his side. I imagine him beside me now, as if this voyage was just like any other: exploring new lands with curiosity and excitement.
As Geillis continued to empty her stomach, I scanned the cabin, seeing some of the younger girls on the ship playing a card game. Their eyes lit a bright light inside of them when they got a good hand, and their smiles sparkled like pearls in the faint lantern light. Despite the ship muck they resided in, they still radiated beauty and grace. That and their training would make them excellent wives.
Perhaps I should have let Uncle Lamb enroll me in that Dame school, I thought as I turned back to check on Geillis. Even though I got to choose the man I married, there was no guarantee that my husband would keep me when he found out how many skills I lacked. But no man could be so cruel, could he? While it made no sense to wish for a kind husband, I still did, as did all the women. I could only hope that my husband would be caring, smart, and understanding (and have a face and body with equally desirable qualities, but both together was the most rare of all).
A tug on Geillis’s hair called me back to reality. It seemed the sickness had faded for a moment or two, enough for her to speak. “Claire, I swear to ye, if I don’t make it on this ship, bury me in the new world. I dinna care if my flesh sticks up the whole bloody ship, I wilna be thrown to the sea, like a bone to a dog”
“You’re not gonna die Geillis, it’s only 3 more weeks till the captains said we'll see land. If you die on this ship, I swear to you I’ll kill you” My remark managed to stifle a chuckle from Geillis’s sickly body. She smiled at me, and then her moment of peace was over: she went back to being sick almost immediately. I never found myself in the comfort of women, but Geillis was like a sister to me. Spending a month at sea in tight quarters did that to a friendship.
Geillis wasn’t the only friend I made on the ship. To my left sat 15 year old Mary Hawkins, the youngest of the maids. Mary was just… small. A small frame and small face were the most startling of her features, and the month on the ship caused an almost deadly thinning of her figure. When she spoke, the words came in small stutters, and any movement made her jump. When I first saw her I wondered how Mary could have thought she could survive the trek across the ocean; that was, until I found out being a maid was her father’s scheme. After finding this out, a sisterly urge surged inside me, and I was her protector on the voyage ever since. And as her protector, I saw her shivering as I helped Geillis, and moved my arm from Geillis’s back to around Mary’s shoulders.  She gladly nestled herself into my side, but the shaking didn’t stop.
“A-am I going to die here, C-Claire?” She stuttered out. I quickly shook my head and turned to look down at her. I saw tears running down her face, but she didn’t look me in the eyes. She kept her gaze on the wall across from us, where a woman who looked the most sick of all rested her head. She didn’t look alive anymore, but with closer examination I saw her chest rose ever so slightly. I made a mental note to check on her later, if she hadn’t already died. So far, 34 women have died. While the cause of death varied from maid to maid, it was all from the same sickness that plagued our ship since the beginning of the second week aboard. Not all the women were victims, but the ones that were died swiftly and in immense pain. But, for every maid that died here, the same amount of men were left without a bride, and that would mean another wave of maids. I couldn’t imagine putting more girls through this hell. I was fortunate to be well, and above all else, alive.
“No, you’re not. You’re gonna leave the ship with us and meet your husband.” I rubbed Mary’s shoulders gently. I felt her breath loosen, and she slumped slightly. Good, I thought. She fell asleep
I then stayed with Geillis until her nausea faded. After cleaning her up using my dress as a rag, I laid her down and watched her drift to sleep. I touched my hand to her forehead, and was thankful for not feeling any unusual temperature. I removed my arm from Mary’s shoulders, and slowly set her down near Geillis’ head. I tucked a small bag of grain beneath both of their heads, and thankfully none of them awoke from their slumber. I looked across the cabin and saw the pale woman from before. She hadn’t changed positions, but her chest still rose and fell like before. I moved in front of her, and placed my hand on her forehead. Hot. Burning hot. I shook her awake, and when she opened her eyes, they were bloodshot.
“Will... you tell my husband that I’m sorry I wasn’t able to make it” The sentence flowed out like any other statement, but the meaning behind it was darker.. She was a young woman, nearly 23 I guessed. Her hair was a soft blonde, and she had a pleasing aura about her. I could also tell she was quite pretty, underneath the sweat and sickness. Her hair stuck around her face, but she had the complexion of a sheet of paper. She was transparent, the veins of her body stuck out harshly against her pale face. When she spoke, it came out in a low whisper, as if her body didn’t have the willpower to use any strength.
“I’m Faith” She flashed a quick but weak attempt at a smile. I wished there was something I could do, to give her the strength that had saved me these past weeks. I reached beside her to grab a rag, in hopes of maybe wiping away the heat, but she put her hands over mine.
“Make the new world good for us” She spoke, before closing her eyes. Everything happened so suddenly, I could barely register it all. The minute she closed her eyes, any color that was left in her face disappeared. The rising of her chest stopped, and a hand fell limply from mine.
I removed myself immediately, and sat next to Geillis. She stirred in her sleep before sitting up, tired. She must’ve heard what had happened, because just as I sat down she put her arm around mine. I wanted to cry, to feel some kind of pity for the woman, but nothing came out. ‘You should mourn her’ my brain told me but how could I? I just met her.
I didn’t have time to be like this. In a few short weeks we would be on the island with the men, living in the new world. Instead of feeling pity, I felt a sense of guilt. Out of nearly 100 women, only a few would step off this ship and into a new life. And I was one of them. Why did I get the luxury? I wasn’t ever a quiet, obeying miss, and I don’t think I could ever be. Why did god and those above think me fit to take on the responsibility of marriage? Faith would’ve probably made a fantastic wife, but here she lies dead by my feet and I am still breathing.
These thoughts ran rampant in my mind, so much so they exhausted me, and I felt myself roused into a deep slumber, with Geillis’ arm still around me and the soft breathing of the living filling my ears, reminding me I was still alive, that we all were. We bore the weight and responsibility of those who didn’t live, it was our job to make the new world good and prosperous.

Hello everyone! This is my first chapter of a fanfiction I’m looking forward to writing! I’m a fairly new author so if everyone could be kind/give solid constructive criticism, that would be amazing! I’m looking forward to hopefully releasing more chapters later on!

Eh, nobody tagged me in this game, but I saw @danieyells did it and thought it was thoroughly cute so I’ll do a little more sharing for a change (take a few steps out of my comfort zone of relative anonymity, you know?)
1. Who is your favorite brother? Depends on the day. Good days: Beel. Bad days: Levi. All days: Mammon. (Yes that still somehow doesn’t make him sole favorite)
2. Who are your top 3 favorite brothers? Mammon, Beel, Levi. Easy-peasy.
3. Who is your favorite undateable? Barbatos actually. Since we know practically jackshit about him I’ve made an idealized version of him in my head and let me tell ya, he’s great!
4. What is your most powerful card? Idol Beel (First Beel card the game ever gave me. Took two months and I’ve been milking it ever since...)
5. What is your favorite card? Uhhh... Based solely on art, I’d say it’s a three-way between Belphie’s Our Summer Festival (my icon art) for its eye-catching colors, Levi’s The Battle Between Demons because its utterly adorkable, and Satan’s de-flowered I’ll Protect You because he looks like he’s ready to steamroll a small nation.
6. Who is your favorite artist who draws obey me fanart? Is YES a valid answer? I’m an art whore... I tend to really like what @Pon.ee does, their style is wonderfully slick, energetic, and fun!
7. Who is your favorite writer in the fandom? @obae-me (@marajordyn) still holds a well-deserved death grip on my top spot. I honestly can only read so much of her work in one sitting because it legit inspires me so much I’ll be bouncing off the walls with creativity for hours (and annoy all my loved ones in the process). I couldn’t recommend her work more. READ IT.
8. What was your favorite event? Lamp/1001 Devildom Nights. It’s almost purely a matter of personal preference. I adore things inspired by or based off of the Arabian Nights... (Magi is my semi-guilty pleasure anime for that very reason)
9. Are you struggling with new lessons? The Main Story? No. The Hard mode? Hella yeah. I’ve just given up making progress there for a while so I can conserve resources.
10. What is your favorite obey me! theory? The one I came up with a while ago that concludes that either Levi’s skin or his demon clothes must indestructible. Or that Diavolo is an unwitting puppet ruler and Barbs has been secretly running things the whole time. Either of those.
11. What your favorite devilgram story you’ve unlocked?
(1) The Queen of Jealousy for Beel is a favorite (I didn’t even think there was a jealous Beel before then)
(2) Belphie’s Shelter from the Rain (Belphie being cute is my eternal kryptonite)
(3) Levi’s Under the Sea (Fun fact: I get anxious in deep water, the ocean especially, but my mind has long since accepted that Levi=Safety as far water is concerned. Game, you cannot convince me otherwise.)
(4) Presents for Lucifer/Quality Time for For Two (I’ve mentioned before that Lucifer and I have the same birthday, so the stuff around his birthday event kind of hits me different, you know?)
And honorable mention Romance Royale if only for the bait and switch ending (is it weird that I’d be totally into having a prince/maid dynamic with Levi, Satan, and Belph? Probably not, but it surprised me.)
12. Which brother do you have the most SSR and URs cards of? Apparently I have 14 Mammons... Lucifer makes a close second (though I don’t really use him) and Beel is in third. If there were a trade system I’d be auctioning my Lucifer’s for more Levi’s (which would probably piss him off).
13. What level are you currently? 183
14. Have you been able to deflower any cards yet? Yes, yes I have.
15. What is your total strength? 5250924
16. What is the total strength of the person at the top of your friend list? 7207926
17. Out of your friend list, what are you ranked at for total strength? Example: 12 out of 24. 9/99
18. Which brother do you currently have on your home screen? Yukata Levi (it pairs well with his background)
19. What is your icon on your student I.D? Levi’s Pieces of the Puzzle
20. What does your about me on your student I.D say? Ride or Die, Mammie
Since this is a tag game, and I’m genuinely curious about y’all (I got practically no one to talk to about this game back home so throw me some scraps...!!), I’ll go ahead and tag @ghostcomit, @buntycake, @yuki-kaminari, @marajordyn, @life-is-a-soup-and-im-a-fork, and @minami--chan. If anyone else wants to chime in, go right on ahead! (I did and like hell am I going to be a hypocrite)

Maybe I'm thinking too much about the Persona games today, but are there any characters that you would pair any tarot arcana with?
What a fun question! I think that tarot cards have like, the coolest aesthetic ever. Unfortunately, I don’t know much about tarot arcana, so I went on a deep dive into Wikipedia to try to understand it. I’ll apologize in advance that A. E. Waith’s definitions for these cards feel very heteronormative. I’m working with the traditional definitions, but I try to make them work for a modern story.
Here are the character-card combinations I came up with:
0 – The Fool: Folly, mania, extravagance, intoxication, delirium, frenzy, bewrayment. [If the card is] Reversed: Negligence, absence, distribution, carelessness, apathy, nullity, vanity.
Joe Tazuna
Joe Tazuna is our gaudy, “extravagant” fool! The fool represents the “everyman,” and is often the “protagonist of the story” in Major Arcana. Joe, who is good-natured and clumsy, has the type of personality you’d expect to see in a story’s protagonist. Ironically, he is one of the first to die. His “absence” is deeply felt by our real protagonist, Sara, who must go on the “Fool’s Journey” “through the great mysteries of life and the main human archetypes” without him.
1 – The Magician: Skill, diplomacy, address, subtlety, pain, loss, disaster, snares of enemies; self-confidence, will; [it signifies] the Querent, if male. Reversed: Physician, mental disease, disgrace, disquiet.
Reko Yabusame
Reko is our “skilled,” “confident,” strong-willed musician magician! (And she often uses masculine pronouns, so why not give her a masculine card?) Reko has also suffered through “pain, loss, and disaster,” which has shaped her current mature, kind personality. And in the past, she was a “disgraced” rebellious rock star who burned through bands.
2 – The High Priestess: Secrets, mystery, the future as yet unrevealed; the woman who interests the Querent, if male; the Querent herself, if female; silence, tenacity; mystery, wisdom, science. Reversed: Passion, moral or physical ardor, conceit, surface knowledge.
Tia Safalin and Maple
This card made me think of both villainous ladies. Tia Safalin has knowledge of science, while Maple seems to also have mysterious wisdom about human nature and the future.
3 – The Empress: Fruitfulness, action, initiative, length of days; the unknown, clandestine; also difficulty, doubt, ignorance. Reversed: Light, truth, the unraveling of involved matters, public rejoicings; according to another reading, vacillation.
Sara Chidouin
The Empress can only be our Sara! The girl who takes “initiative” and becomes the group’s leader! She seeks to bring “light” and “truth” to discussions, and she “unravels mysteries.” And yet, she also suffers from “doubt” in herself, and “ignorance” of her surroundings.
4 – The Emperor: Stability, power, protection, realization; a great person; aid, reason, conviction also authority and will. Reversed: Benevolence, compassion, credit; also confusion to enemies, obstruction, immaturity.
Mr. Chidouin
We don’t know much about Mr. Chidouin, and I do not trust him one bit. However, he seemed to be a suitable companion to his “Empress” daughter. Kai Satou certainly thought he was “a great” and “benevolent” person, though he has an “immature” way of speaking.
5 – The Hierophant: Marriage, alliance, captivity, servitude; by another account, mercy, and goodness; inspiration; the man to whom the Querent has recourse. Reversed: Society, good understanding, concord, over kindness, weakness.
Kai Satou
The words “servitude” and “captivity” suit our homemaker Kai, who always lived in service to others—either Asu-Naro or the Chidouins. Kai is a “good” man, but he is also shown to be one of the “weakest” participants since he dies early on.
6 – The Lovers: Attraction, love, beauty, trials overcome. Reversed: Failure, foolish designs. Another account speaks of marriage frustrated and contrarieties of all kinds.
Nao Egokoro
I know that Nao’s story doesn’t have much romance in it, but I liked the duality of “trials overcome” combined with “failure” and “foolish designs” for our poor, brave Nao. She is a girl who grew a lot, and her heart was overflowing with love for her new friends, but in the end she was doomed to failure with the Sacrifice Card.
7 – The Chariot: Succour, providence; also war, triumph, presumption, vengeance, trouble. Reversed: Riot, quarrel, dispute, litigation, defeat.
Alice Yabusame
So many aggressive words in that description made me think of our “Murderer,” Alice! Alice was “triumphant” in his last fight with Original Sou, but he can be “defeated” by Rio Ranger.
8 or 11 – Justice: Equity, rightness, probity, executive; triumph of the deserving side in law. Reversed: Law in all its departments, legal complications, bigotry, bias, excessive severity.
Keiji
Of course I had to give “Justice” to everyone’s favorite self-proclaimed policeman, Keiji! Keiji lays down the law in our group, and don’t we all hope he’ll favor the “deserving side” instead of showing “excessive severity.”
9 – The Hermit: Prudence, circumspection; also and especially treason, dissimulation, roguery, corruption. Reversed: Concealment, disguise, policy fear, unreasoned caution.
Rio Ranger
“The Hermit” feels like a strange card to give to our childish doll villain, but I liked the descriptive words associated with “corruption” and “policy fear.” Rio Ranger commits “treason” by directly killing a participant, and he also “conceals and disguises” himself with masks and other people’s clothes.
10 – Wheel of Fortune: Destiny, fortune, success, elevation, luck, felicity. Reversed: Increase, abundance, superfluity.
Sue Miley
Sue Miley is the villain who introduces us to our destiny with the Practice Vote and the First Main Game. She sadistically wishes everyone “luck.”
8 or 11 – Strength: Power, energy, action, courage, magnanimity; also complete success and honours. Reversed: Despotism, abuse of power, weakness, discord, sometimes even disgrace.
Q-Taro
Q-Taro suits “strength” perfectly! His character arc is all about learning what true strength is. He begins the game from a place of cowardice and selfishness, but he becomes courageous and honorable.
12 – The Hanged Man: Wisdom, circumspection, discernment, trials, sacrifice, intuition, divination, prophecy. Reversed: Selfishness, the crowd, body politic.
Shin Tsukimi
How could my favorite doomed antagonist have any other card but “The Hanged Man”? Shin is cursed from the beginning of the game with a “prophecy” that he will die. He relies on “intuition” more often than logic and he can be very “selfish,” but he is also “wise” enough to want to protect the most vulnerable among them, leading to his “sacrifice.”
13 – Death: End, mortality, destruction, corruption; also, for a man, the loss of a benefactor; for a woman, many contrarieties; for a maid, failure of marriage projects. Reversed: Inertia, sleep, lethargy, petrifaction, somnambulism; hope destroyed.
Ranmaru Kageyama
I liked the card “death” for our main dummy Ranmaru, who has died and transformed. The words associated with “sleep” and “lethargy” also reminded me of his final moments, where he commented that death felt like going to sleep.
14 – Temperance: Economy, moderation, frugality, management, accommodation. Reversed: Things connected with churches, religions, sects, the priesthood, sometimes even the priest who will marry Querent; also disunion, unfortunate combinations, competing interests.
Kazumi Mishima
“Temperance” sounded like a good card for a wise character who lives in “moderation.” Mishima was cursed with an “unfortunate combination” of votes in the Practice Vote.
15 – The Devil: Ravage, violence, vehemence, extraordinary efforts, force, fatality; that which is predestined but is not for this reason evil. Reversed: Evil fatality, weakness, pettiness, blindness.
Original Sou Hiyori
“The Devil” is the most perfect card for my favorite villain! He is “violent” and goes to “extraordinary efforts” to manipulate the participants, but he has also suffered a “fatality.” I thought the phrase “predestined but is not for this reason evil” was especially intriguing for Original Sou, since I often wonder how much free will he could exercise within Asu-Naro.
16 – The Tower: Misery, distress, indigence, adversity, calamity, disgrace, deception, ruin. It is a card in particular of unforeseen catastrophe. Reversed: Negligence, absence, distribution, carelessness, apathy, nullity, vanity.
Gashu Satou
Gashu brings a terrible “unforeseen catastrophe” in the Second Main Game, when he would rather kill himself then give our characters a chance to escape! He is undoubtedly the best character for “The Tower.”
17 – The Star: Loss, theft, privation, abandonment; another reading says--hope bright prospects, Reversed: Arrogance, haughtiness, impotence.
Kanna Kizuchi
Kanna has suffered “loss” and she may be “abandoned” by the people she loves. However, her survival also brings “hope” and “bright prospects” in spite of the Death Game’s cruelty.
18 – The Moon: Hidden enemies, danger, calumny, darkness, terror, deception, occult forces, error. Reversed: Instability, inconstancy, silence, lesser degrees of deception and error.
The Dummies
The words related to “hidden enemies” in the “darkness” reminded me of our dummies, who are tasked with killing the human participants.
19 – The Sun: This card is generally considered positive. It is said to reflect happiness and contentment, vitality, self-confidence and success. Sometimes referred to as the best card in Tarot, it represents good things and positive outcomes to current struggles.
Gin Ibushi
Gin Ibushi is a light in our lives who brings Sara emotional comfort! In spite of having no tokens to defend himself in trades, nobody sent him the Sacrifice Card, which is a wonderful thing.
20 – Judgment: Judgement, Rebirth, Inner-calling, Absolution, Karma, Causality, Second chance
The Man from the Memorandum
The Man from the Memorandum, the winner of the Previous Death Game, seems to be the Mastermind of a new Death Game and is calling for a “second chance” for the High School Girl to survive. He pronounces judgment on every victim.
(It’s entirely possible that the Man from the Memorandum is Mr. Chidouin himself, which would make my distinguishing between them silly in hindsight! For now, I’ll assume they’re different people.)
21 – The World: Assured success, recompense, voyage, route, emigration, flight, change of place. Reversed: Inertia, fixity, stagnation, permanence.
The 17-Year-Old School Girl
Is 15.5% enough to “assure the success” of the High School Girl? Is that enough to “change her place” from dying in the First Death Game? Or will she be “permanently” dead? The entire “world” of the Death Game seems to hinge on this critical role!

Hi! I like your headcanons and I was thinking... A headcanon about the main six playing Animal Crossing and how MC would react to them. Thank you for doing it!! You're a pretty good writer!!
So how Mc reacts is totally up too you, because your Mc is either your oc, or a cooler version of your self, so I’ll compromise and give you my hot mess of thoughts, because I am so glad you asked.
Main six playing animal crossing
Asra and Muriel have both been playing since the game cube version, and always points out how convenient the new features are, and they always complain about how they took away morning aerobics.
Asra also plays as isabell in smash and whoops every ones ass.
Julian got wild world for Portia when it came out, and she’s been playing it ever since.
Julian on the other hand doesn’t see the appeal, but plays it with Portia because it makes her happy, but doesn’t understand how to play and fell in about three pitfall seeds and its not even five minutes in
Lucio and Nadia both hopped on the bandwagon during quarantine. Nadias island had five stars about a month in, it’s been over two months and if Lucios island is only at two stars.
Asra time travels on every game, and his island is full of hybrid flowers, and weird furniture. Nothing matches but he gets and A+ for effort. He’s also like a year ahead of every one.
Muriel and Portia islands are both very natural, portias is sectioned out, into diffrent areas, and muriels whole island looks woodsy and like a campsite.
Lucio and Julian don’t know what they’re doing. Julian doesn’t care and lucio is throwing a hissy fit because he still hasn’t been able to update his nooks cranny.
Lucio hit zipper with his net and felt no remorse. He also cried when beardo moved on his island.
Muriel some how got stuck with Kidd as a starter villager, and for some reason he still hasn’t left. Which makes Muriel and lucio mad because Muriel wants him gone and lucio wants him on his island
Nadia got Raymond on her island and gave him to asra, who them sold him to Portia for five hundred nook miles tickets.
Nadia, asra, and Portia all have a nookazon, and Portia and asra, are active as hell on the discord server.
Asra sells his villagers and hits his ugly ones with a net until they leave. So does Portia.
Muriel feels bad hitting his ugly villagers with a net so he ignores them, and gives his villagers away for free, no matter how ‘rare’ they are and gets emotional if you leave a tip.
Nadia some how has almost every diy, and will craft you anything. For a price.
Julian stopped playing as soon as he caught an Easter egg while fishing.
Every one expect for lucio is partaking in the weddings day event with Reese and Cyrus. They all send they’re sets into the group chat and Julian gets judge because he’s not playing the game and lucio said no.
Lucio tried the wedding event and hated it.
Portia at one point made Raymond wear a maid outfit and now regrets it deeply. She had too reset his character because he wouldn’t take it off.
Asra has dom and Judy on his island and couldn’t be happier.
Muriel wants all the bear villagers and is willing to trade lucio Kidd for *shivers* beardo.
Asra has a whole bunch of weird fish and bug models
And Nadia finished her whole art exhibit and fossil exhibit
Lucio gets scammed by reed every time.
Muriel buys turnips for everyone but lucio if his prices are low enough, because he’s the only one who remembers or is up on time.
Julians turnip prices are always the highest but they wouldn’t know that because he gave up.
Julian also doesn’t come back even after Portia explained to him the event was over. Those thirty water eggs just scared him for life I guess.
Nadia got all her sisters as obsessed as she is.
Lucio Hates is but keeps playing it because he doesn’t want to feel left out.
Asra made an obstacle course for everyone and makes his friends pay fees to see the meteor showers.(he gives them a discount)
Asra also skipped over the whole Easter event.
Muriel is the only one who doesn’t mind zipper. He doesn’t like him sure, but he gets it. He respects the hustle.
Asra also also has all the Sanrio ambio cards.
No wait- It’s atleast a C+
If you have any more thoughts please add to the list. And if you want to read more of my trash my master list is here
Next headcanon: asra when Mc has a cold
My request are open!
